Level 2 Intermediate Driver's License Restrictions
Officer Chester has been receiving several questions in regards to "Level Two Intermediate Driver's Licenses" and their restrictions. The impression has been that ‘off-campus lunch during Grand Ledge HS school hours is an authorized activity’ in which student drivers with a level 2 license may have more than one student ride with them in the vehicle. This is not considered an authorized school activity.

To help clear things up, the following are the restrictions for the Level 2 Intermediate License:

The operator of a motor vehicle with a level 2 license shall not operate a motor vehicle at any time with more than 1 passenger in the vehicle who is less than 21 years of age except:

  • When the additional passengers are immediate family members
  • When driving to or from or in the course of employment
  • While going to or from an authorized activity
  • When accompanied by a parent or legal guardian or a licensed driver 21 years of age or older designated by the parent or legal guardian
